OnePlus’s ‘foldable strategy’ for 2025 confirms there will be no Open 2 this year | Technology News

The OPPO Find N5, launching on February 20, was expected to arrive in India and a few other countries as the OnePlus Open 2. However, in an official blog published on February 13, Vale G, product manager of OnePlus Open, confirmed that the company has “made the decision not to release a foldable this year. This is not a step back; it’s a recalibration. Our commitment to innovation is stronger than ever, and we’re excited to bring you fresh, unique experiences that truly Never Settle.”

“That said, our decision to pause on foldables for this generation does not signify a departure from the category. OPPO’s Find N5 demonstrates remarkable advancements in foldable technology, including the use of cutting-edge new materials and more sophisticated engineering. We remain committed to incorporating these breakthroughs into our future products,” Vale wrote in the same blog.

This move will help OPPO take the lead in the foldable segment, with a single product catering to all enthusiasts. Having the same product under two brands could cause confusion.

Last year, OPPO, the parent company of OnePlus, limited the Find N3 to select markets, and released the same device as the OnePlus Open in other regions. This time, the OPPO Find N5 will arrive in more markets and cater to both OPPO and OnePlus enthusiasts looking for a new foldable smartphone.

OnePlus has reassured users that it will continue to support the OnePlus Open with regular software updates, security patches, and after-sales services. However, as of now, there is no information on whether another foldable smartphone from OnePlus will be released in the future.
