Apple has shared the updated iOS adoption numbers, revealing that 68 per cent of all active iPhones are already running iOS 18. In comparison, this number rises to 76 per cent when considering iPhones launched in the last four years. Meanwhile, 19 per cent of iPhones are still on the previous iOS 17 update, and only 5 per cent of devices are running earlier versions of iOS.
These statistics are based on iPhones that interacted with the App Store as of January 21.
Apple introduced iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 in September, alongside the launch of the iPhone 16 series of smartphones featuring new hardware capable of supporting Apple Intelligence. With the release of the iOS 18.3 update, Apple completed the rollout of the first batch of AI features.
Similarly, 63 per cent of all iPads introduced in the last four years are already running iPadOS 18, while 53 per cent of all iPads have adopted the latest iPadOS 18 update. Like iPhones, only select iPads—specifically those with M-series chips—support Apple Intelligence.
With iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, Apple introduced enhanced customisation features, including a redesigned Control Centre, customisable app icons, an updated Photos app, and support for RCS messaging in the Messages app.
While Google has yet to reveal Android 15 adoption numbers, as of December 2024, only 37 per cent of Android devices are running Android 14, which currently holds the highest market share among Android devices.
